2017 roof rails that much different than the 2018?

I'm on my thirds set of cross bars (load bars) that do not fit. Turns out the most recent one's were for a 2018 XC90 and i have a 2017. The fit was just short by a few millimeters on the front cross bar. The back fit fine which tells me the rails on the 2017 XC90 narrow inwards from front to back (which I recall reading somewhere). Can anyone save my sanity and recommend a set of cross bars for the 2017 flush rails on an inscription model that are THIS style?

Edit: Meant to add, at a reasonable price (under $300). Not something like Thule where it's $450 per piece and requires 15 pieces.

Can you give us an idea of which 3 sets of crossbars you tried already?

I'm assuming the one you linked is adjustable in terms of sliding the bottom foot packs along the bars wider or narrower depending on where you mount it on the rails.

For those style bars, there really is only 1 length of bar that will go with the car. In Thule's case, it's 53" and that won't change whether it's 2017 or 2018.

The one i linked is adjustable but the rails on my 2017 seem to be an inch or two, too wide for everything to work. This is what's confusing to me. Are the 2018 rails actually 2-3 inches closer together than the 2017? You commented that the 53" would work for 2017 and 2018 but does that mean if the bars I got were for a 2018 (48" each), they should work for the 2017? The other versions were on me for ordering the wrong ones (not for flush rails).

I was considering trying to make these work but would rather not have to rig something up

Update: Brightlines customer service reached out first thing this morning. We chatted about the issue and they've expedited a pair of 53" cross bars to me in exchange for the 48". These should do the trick! Thank you for your help Jaaa regarding the size needed.

No problem and glad you got it sorted. Eyeballing my own 53" setup, the 48" is too short.

The official Volvo load carrier bars are under $300 and made by Thule, why not just buy them?

I'm not a fan of the way the Volvo ones look.

You should only have them on when you're actively using them with a roof box or bikes or whatever, it's not like you're using them as a fashion statement. At least not with "BRIGHTLINES" emblazoned across them.

Been using the Volvo cross bars with a Thule Motion XL box and have had no issues. I'll leave the crossbars on if I know I'm going to be using it in a week or two and while it does increase wind noise a little bit, it's not that bad.
