      Battery post deforming?

I have a 2017 S60 and my battery posts are not deformed. Maybe this is more of a car battery question. My wife has a 2016 Acura RDX and the negative battery post looks like someone hit the post with a hammer making the post look somewhat like a mushroom. Calling the Acura dealer they said, that this can be normal due to the soft lead metal post. Is that true? I have never had this experience before. The problem with this situation is that I can't take off the negative terminal.

I never had this issue with any of my cars including this Volvo S60.
      This is strange.

If the "mushrooming" is all above the clamp could you cut off the top edge of the post with a hacksaw? Have your shop vac nozzle sucking beside where you're cutting so the lead shavings don't fall everywhere. If it's a common Acura problem you might find a better solution on an Acura site.

There is not enough of it to cut. But there is enough to cause a problem in removing the battery. Calling Acura they said, it has happened before. Based on owning other batteries and cars I have never had this experience before.
