Software update and check engine light

We have a new 2020 XC60 T8. Just found out the latest software update for the brakes causes the check engine light to sporadically come on for no reason.

Supposedly Volvo knows this. Has anyone else heard this?

If you are referring to TJ35460, the latest software corrects this.

your article is incorrect. per vida, perform 2.0, PDI OR PDS software download. was last modified 4/9/2020, so fix didnt come out today. dont trust 3rd party information when it comes to potentially important repairs especially under warranty

This is not a third party, but a TSB by Volvo

See date: TSB Date: April 16, 2020

Conclusion: your information from 9 April is outdated

The TJ has been updated to say the latest software takes care of it.

Just got back from picking up the car and the service advisor told me that Volvo will have a fix for the check engine light in 2 weeks.

He said that when you first get in the car turn the ignition on without stepping in the brake to wake up the car. Then step on the brake and start the car and this will avoid the issue.

@BIGBANG yes working in a volvo dealer allows more access to information then google allows you. the link you provided does not link to volvo, but a 3rd party referencing a volvo service bulletin. in the bulletin it says:
Please do NOT replace hardware in an attempt to repair the vehicle.

Please note: Mechanically the brakes function as designed.

Please, follow the advice under Service.

      Service
If you have a vehicle the has the Check Engine Light on and has the codes listed above.

SW is now available in PDS/ PDI/ 2.0/ Total upgrade.

since that was last modified in april, you telling people in june there is no fix available because you found a google site that says so is silly

The only thing that is true is that this is not a Volvo site

All TSBs with number and date as well as problem description are WRITTEN BY VOLVO SERVICE

I did not find it on google, but on the official Volvo page about upgrades, last time where is XC60 listed is January

But there is no way to verify that it's the up to date information then... It's valuable to see the progress of things, but not as any sort of complete data for someone trying to fix a current issue.

It'd be like looking at laws from the US during prohibition and saying that you can't drink alcoholic spirits in the US. It was true at one point, but not correct today.

He didn't say much, actually. He never mentioned which codes were stored. For the codes in that bulletin, the update is available.

What codes were stored? Should be noted on your repair order.

Okay so it's an issue they are aware of but there is no bulletin for it yet. I have no idea what they're talking about, as I haven't run into it yet. But if they got RTS involved, that's all they can do.

Thanks for the info guys had same thing twice - at 80 miles and at 700 miles (now at 750 - it is a new car ). Scheduled visit to dealer in a week, will tell him about it and will see if I can avoid CEL.
