      T8 electronic shifter weirdness

This morning when I was backing out of the garage I put the car in reverse, released the brake, and the car put itself back into park. The first time I thought I had forgotten to shift, but this happened 4 or 5 times: the panel would show I was in reverse, the backup camera would show on the screen, then release the brake and *poof* - back into park. Parking brake was not engaged if that makes any difference.

Turning off the ignition, giving the shifter the finger (obviously the important step), and restarting made it work. Anyone else ever encounter this? I'm just chalking it up to a glitch in the matrix for now.

I have had it happen but it typically involves a slight incline or decline. I rationalized that was a safety feature to prevent an inadvertent roll while shifting out of park through neutral.

If your foot is “firmly” on the brake, the issue is mitigated if not eliminated.

I have not had it happen but do you have the automatic brake hold function activated? One thing that freaked me out was turning left and the opposing cars turning the other way and the collision warning went crazy. Why I leased this car....

Automatic brake hold won’t place the car in park just apply brakes in gear.

I had that happen to me twice. Both times I had to turn off the car in order for it to get back in gear. It would switch from drive to park when I hit the gas. It did it to me twice in one week and it hasn’t happened since.
