I recently bought a used XC90 transmission fluid cooler that I plan to install pretty soon here. In thinking that I could potentially have a leak between the in radiator trans cooler and the radiator coolant paths, I fear that bypassing the factory cooler (which isn't even actually a cooler at all) could yield a leak of the cooling system from the open trans cooling line ports, or is that even possible? So I'm considering replacing the radiator to eliminate that possibility and also to start fresh should the fluids have been mixing inside of there. I have no reason to believe this is happening other than I know that it CAN happen, but that symptoms I experience of harsh shifting when the cooling system warms up above normal operating temp (in my case usually 195-200F) and then returns back to being smooth when the car is below 195F is a fair indication of this occurring. That all said, DO88 all aluminum radiators peak my interest as a replacement since plastic tank radiators can be hit or miss in longevity compared to the factory Valeo units. In browsing on eBay I came across these and was curious if anyone on here had experience with them. They list as being for MT only which is fine by me as I'll be bypassing the AT ports anyways with the XC90 external cooler setup. Yes it's not DO88 which is the standard for this product, but I also don't have chunks of $$ to throw at parts like that either. The other option is most likely an aftermarket radiator from FCP with their warranty and all. What do you all think?
