      TCM Replacement

Hey guys, I just have a quick question.
I am looking at replacing my Transmission Control Module on my 2006 s60r and I was wondering if I need to reprogram the ECU in order for it to adapt properly. I will most likely be buying a used one.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

They require reprogramming and usually will not take a reload if they are used.

Why do you need to replace it?

You might want to contact xemodex and see what solutions they can offer. A new TCM from Volvo, with programming is going to be expensive.

Have you driven this car to make sure the transmission is ok? (at some point in the cars existence)

Yes, the transmission is fine. Is it still ok to drive on or will there be long term wear?

I was not aware that a transmission on 99+ Volvo would work/shift/downshift without a control unit. (and have never tried)

It won't, the car really won't even start without it because the TCM on 06+ with TF80 is also the PNP switch.

Are you sure this car doesn't have a TCM? It's sitting right on top of the transmission underneath the shift linkage.

2005 and below Rs have the TCM adjacent to the ECM in the box next to the coolant bottle, 06+ with the 6 speed auto have their TCM integrated into the top of the transmission.

I feel stupid now... I have the 6 speed auto so I shouldn't have a problem at all, just myself overthinking as usual. Thank you all for your help regardless!
