Cross shopping T8 RDesign vs Polestar Engineered

I知 considering adding a T8 xc60 to the family stable.

I知 cross shopping a T8 RD with air suspension, pretty much loaded, vs a Polestar Engineered.

Price wise I can swing the difference. I知 worried about the suspension difference though. Our other car is a xc90 with air suspension, and I知 worried about the Ohlins.

I知 clearly not going to track the car and I kinda enjoy the ride height adjustability of the air suspension.

Anybody have any input on this?

But isnt Polestar Engineered just a software update? What do you.mean by suspension difference? You.mean between T8 RD vs PE?

PE doesn't focus on suspension but engine, gears and throttle management I think

So, you can get T8 RD-PE without any impact on suspension

Polestar Engineered is a separate trim level that includes Ohlins dampers, humongous brakes, and some other stuff. What you’re thinking of is the Polestar optimization tunes, which is just a software update.

Ohlins is one of the leading brands in the automotive world so you don't need to worry. In any case, the system is twice as good and of better quality than the one that Volvo installs in its models, , that is why Polestar chose it as its model

That痴 polestar optimized. The polestar engineered models are a separate trim.

It sounds like you've answered your own question.

I too favor the air suspension over traditional struts. For me, the load leveling (towing), ride height control, and dynamic adjustability is more important that any track-focused benefits. 99.99% of XC60 PE owners will never track it.

You can also purchase the P* tune, wheels, etc, separately, if desired.

The idea of Ohlins struts is you change it when you are in the mood and your car rides like a different car.
As you have air suspension on one car, it is more fun to have Ohlins on the other.

Also I'd think Ohlins is more reliable after many years than air suspension.

Do keep in mind that the Ohlins dampers, even in their softest setting, is going to be a lot more firm and less compliant than the Four-C air suspension. That said, when you set them to the firmer settings, they're really really good, but if you don't plan on canyon carving or taking the car to the track, it's probably not worth sacrificing the ride quality for.

If you're hesitant about the PE, it's probably a sign that you should get the regular T8. The PE is aimed at a particularly narrow segment of buyers who are willing to compromise on things like equipment and comfort for a more dynamic drive. For a crossover like the XC60, those trade-offs become even more questionable.

I've had both, and I prefer the air susp and ride of the normal T8, but prefer the looks of the PE. The seats are a toss up. Maybe lean towards the R seats actually.
