      Xc90 Cooling Fan In-op

      Good Evening Folks;
      My first posting here, but I admit to having poached some very helpful information from you over the years. The issue at hand here is that my daughter's XC90 2.5 5 cylinder's electric cooling fan appears to have failed. I have swapped it for a supposedly good one from a local recycler with no joy, and the question I have for you assembled Volvo experts is where is the fan relay / controller located? I have looked all over the engine compartment and cannot see a likely suspect. With colder weather here in Eastern Canada the fan is not as necessary as it was in July, but I do want it fixed.
      Best regard and thanks;

      My guess would be the fuse is blown. Check the fuse box in the engine compartment, its cover has a diagram printed on the inside of it that shows which fuse pertains to which part. It also has a few spare fuses in there and a handy fuse puller.

      Hello, thanks but that is the first thing I checked. A full 13+ volts at the big red wire.

      Thanks anyway

      Isn't the fan/blower motor/resistor all part of the same unit? When ours became intermittent I got another complete assembly from the auto wrecker and it has been working good since installation. 04 fit into the 07. A funny quirk was that when I raised and dropped the hood the intermittent one would start working again. Probably it was in the wire connection. I changed the connector pig tail at the same time.

      Hi Vince, yes it is all part of one assembly, so I have been told. I did as you did, changed the entire assy, but still no blow. I have been told that it is an ECM problem, so I see a trip to the dealer in my future.
      Thanks
      Mike

      Looking at the wiring diagram, it appears that there is a separate temperature sensor and an AC pressure sensor involved, as well. I would start by applying an ohmmeter to the temp sensor. Open circuit is bad; should have some level of resistance?

      Hello, the temp sensor on the thermostat housing? I happen to have a spare, I will check the one on the car and swap them if necessary .

      Thanks again.

      The diagram doesn't share the location, but that may be a winner. Good luck!
