      2021 XC90 Recharge (T8) Fuel Tank Size

Does anyone have a new XC90 T8 or XC90 Recharge as they are now calling it? I was just on the website, and the stated fuel tank size is 18.5 gallons. If so, that is a significant increase in size from the older T8's.

Coming from a 16 to a 2020 eliminated range anxiety for me. Big improvement.

Yea, the 18.5 gal. fuel capacity would be nice to eliminate range anxiety - going into unfamiliar territory and nighttime driving.

I mitigated range anxiety with my MY16 by fueling every +/- 250 miles and minimal nighttime driving. Only two segments on my MN->CA were notably anxious extreme (1) Ulysses, KS to Santa Fe, and (2) Phoenix to San Diego.

I would have much greater range anxiety with a BEV since I rarely have opportunity to drive the interstates when driving diagonally across the US.

It’s true. I just picked up my 2021 T8 Recharge. It’s 18.5 gallons. The battery gets you further. I traded in my 2016 T8. I’m so happy I did.

In the US, the median range for a gasoline vehicle is 412 miles (DOE, 2016). The T8 is capable of 30+ mpg on the highway.

If you feel like you need more, maybe you have [tank] size envy?

Drive on the bigger tank for a few weeks and you'll notice the difference. I know I do.

      My long-term average is 56 mpg, so ~728 miles (13 gal tank) between fill-ups. At 10k miles/yr, that's 14 fill-ups.

      I wouldn't notice the difference.
