Rubber piece on the sunroof is peeling off

Observed this today while cleaning the car. Will it result in water leak? Owned this for about 1.5 years and didn't put anything on the roof, so not sure if it was there before purchase or how it happened. Didn't observe anything leaking at the moment but don't want to wait till it starts leaving bad. Also is this something easy to replace or going to cost a lot. I have CPO warranty and not sure if this will be covered through it.

I have the same issue on my car. I wonder why it's wearing prematurely.

The extended warranty doesn’t cover weather strips. CPO warranty maybe the same. It looks like #2 front weather strip:

      https://www.oemvolvopartsonline.com/.../body--sunroof

Make sure drain tubes aren’t clogged. You can do that by pouring a bottle of water in the sunroof rails on each side when the sunroof is opened. Water will be drained to the bottom of the car. You may need to ramp up the front to test rear drain tubes. I just did this the other day since the strip gap is getting wider..

Yes, you should get that replaced.
I'm not convinced that it necessarily causes leaks though. The rubber piece should be there to reduce the volume of water going through the moon roof drain system, but not prevent water from going into the drain system.

A clogged drain tube (as discussed in other threads) is probably more likely to cause leak than that.

Thank you all for the inputs. Any idea how much this might cost at the dealer?

This is a warranty issue. It shouldn't be wearing prematurely like this. I highly doubt this would cause a leak though.

Holy crap! That shouldn't deteriorate within 4 years! My 1st gen XC90 didn't need that in the 12 years I owned it. Definitely a warranty issue or at least ask for goodwill repair, unless of course, it was damaged by a foreign object.

      Labor-$ 385.00
      Parts-$ 91.91
      Tax-$9.19
      Total-$ 486.13

This is the estimate I received from a Volvo dealer near me. Not sure if VCNA can do something here under goodwill as I never placed anything on the roof and not sure how this happened.

I probably wouldn't use my goodwill chance on something under $500, but it's your call.

I happened to open my sunroof today because the weather was so nice. I noticed that only the front panel slide back, I somehow remember that both panels move, but after working from home for exactly seven months today, I am not sure about that at all - I looked at the space behind the second panel, but it was very obvious either way. Can anyone confirm?

OK, just found the answer myself, looks like that's the way it is.

As using it once may hurt the chance of using it for anything bigger again in the future like engine related?

I don't have proof, but from what I've seen I believe previous goodwill is a consideration when evaluating goodwill.

I had the same problem, but it was marten, not rubber wearing. Fortunately no leak.
