Anyone else having issues with early fuel cut-off at Costco Gas?

Lately I've been struggling with our MY18 XC90 cutting off the fuel pump before full (sometimes WAY before, even at 50% full) when refueling at Costco Gas locations. We don't fuel often at non-Costco locations, but the few times we have gone to e.g. Shell we haven't had any issues. Volvo Orange County couldn't replicate the issue either when they looked into it, so I wanted to check in here to see if others have encountered the same issue. Have anyone else had this happen with their XC90?

Happened to me. Not only at Costco, also at Shell and Chevron. In some cases it can be "fixed" by lifting end of handle so there will be better seal/contact with tank opening.

Yes this happens to me too!! Volvo had no fix for it. It's so annoying to get back in your car and realize it's not even full.

I have had zero issues at Costco in MN, but I have had issues at BP and some other stations.

Pump cutoff is managed by the pump/pump handle, not the car.

Probably new designs to limit environmental
      Impact from evaporating gas.

I found that in stations where the pump tend to stop early on my SPA (but not my other vehicles), I can make it fill up completely if I experiment with the angle of the gas nozzle handle. My guess is it has to do with the pressure distribution around the perimeter of the seal due to the orientation of the gas nozzle, which may affect how gas hose weight is being exerted onto the seal perimeter.

At the extreme, if I rotate the gas nozzle so that the trigger handle is about 45 degrees from vertical, it is almost impossible to keep a good seal and the pump easily stops gas delivery. Some gas stations seem to be ok with the nozzle handle "almost" vertical but not exactly vertical, and others seem to be more sensitive to this. When the nozzle is being pulled from the pump into your vehicle's fill port, the hose and support mechanism may make the gas nozzle rotate more than is necessary to ensure proper seal.

It might be the pump’s sensor tube is clogged. That’s how a gas pump knows when to stop:

We use Costco almost exclusively since we got our 2017 XC90. Never had this issue. Never had the issue on the 2020 or the 2021.

I don't have the issue in any of my other cars though, just the Volvo.
