Hey Mcgyver, shouldn't you be able get through the Canadian OSD process with just a ball point pen, a paper clip and a piece of chewing gum?

      Re: (Mcgyver29)

Perhaps you could suggest some questions I should ask to determine their experience with the OSD process.

1- How many OSD's do they do a year? If it is just 1-2..then consider making a few more calls.
2-Do they know who Hans is? If they don't....definintely make some more calls. (Hans is the fdc mgr)
3-Have they been to the fdc? If they have...then you may have found your dealer.

I do wish there was a way that I could handle your OSD ...but Volvo Canada and Volvo US are 2 separate groups.

I'm looking forward to my next car. That probably tells you every thing you need to know, but I'll elaborate a bit.

There have been so many little niggling quality/design issues with my 2005 V50 T5 AWD, most of which were ironed out. However, the recent breather box/PCV issue was it for me, especially since 2 swedespeeders have reported that the repairs are not covered by their Volvo VIP extended warranty ($750+ repair bill). Look in the S40/V50 threads for it.

The mileage is terrible for so small of a car, 17-18mpg average in mixed city and highway driving. The ride quality would be unacceptable in a Corvette.

Mine was one of the earliest V50's delivered in the USA. Volvo promised two things in their sales literature that they failed to deliver. First, the specs indicated the premium package had memory seats and mirrors, but Volvo decontented the memory mirrors. It is an important feature when your wife is 9" shorter than you. Second, they promised future electronic compatability. When the Bluetooth kit came out it was incompatible with my early build V50 . Don't even get me started on iPod connectivity.

I love the seats. I love the looks. I love the nav system. I've even grow to love one of its unresolved design flaws: the barking dogs. I really wanted to love this car. But, I will not miss this car when it is gone and I cannot recommend it to anyone. Take a long look at the S40/V50 threads before you sign on the dotted line.

Talk to every Volvo owner you meet. Find out which dealer has the best service department in your area because you will be on a first name basis with them rather quickly.

In Volvo's defense the 40/50 were a new clean sheet design. The C70, S80 and C30 incorporate the lessons Volvo learned from the 40/50 and, from what I've read on SS, there may be fewer problems with those vehicles.

I love the dealer contributors on SS. I bought an extended warranty from Yannis (alot of good it'll do me the next time the breather box melts down) and I hope to do an OSD sometime if future products restore my trust in Volvo. I hope you have better luck with your V50.

Why would these items not be covered by the Volvo VIP extended warranty? I thought that was an almost "all inclusive" warranty.

Good question. Once is bad enough, but two is getting to be pattern and practice. IIRC the first person it happened to stated that Volvo claimed it was a "wear item" like tires or oil filters. BS!

      Re: (KeystoneVolvo)

Hi all. First post, so hope I don't break any forum taboos etc. Two questions.

I've done European delivery with Saab and am pretty familiar with BMW's program (where yes, one can indeed negotiate down to the European wholesale price plus an "incentive" instead of taking the printed ED/OSD price - is that ever done with Volvo?)

My first question though regards USD:SEK exchange rates and re-pricing. How quick has Volvo been to re-price their vehicles due to currency fluctuations? With the dollar in its current demise, is there a hidden "bonus" to buying in quickly in order to lock in prices before they're adjusted, or is Volvo in the habit of delaying their repricing decisions?

Second question regards the "free" air. My wife and I have existing tickets (one paid, another an award) to Sweden for next spring. If we don't want/can't use the airfare bonus, is any consideration given in the pricing?

Thanks for any insights on the above.

    13. #81

      Re: (Gardyloo)

Volvo doesn't re-price the car because of currency fluctuations with the Kronor.
Volvo Cars has operated in dollars for years now.

Also, there are no price considerations if you don't use the tickets.

If you want to order a car now., you can take advantage of the $595 option package offer, if you can take delivery by Mar 31.
Includes Prem pkg, Sport Pkg, Exec pkg, Select Pkg, Technology pkg.
Any 1 package on the appropriate car is only $595.
some of these packages can be as much as $3000.
check w/ your local OSD specialist for details.

      Re: (KeystoneVolvo)

If the car bought from Keystone turns out to be a 'lemon' and is ultimately returned under a State's Lemon law just how does this work? Which state's lemon law has to be used for this situation?
If bought from Keystone using the OSD program is car delivered to owner's dealership of choice ?

Does the 30K free maintenance cover the 30K service checkup ? If so this is quite likely to be worth around $1000.

Can one use a Volvo customer loyalty discount toward purchase of an OSD '08 XC70 ? What is this discount currently and who's eligible for it and what proof is required to qualify ?

The OSD program back in 2003 required a $2000 deposit at time of order. Today I'm reading this has been increased to $4000. Is this correct? When is the $dollar balance of the order required - it used to be 30 days prior to delivery at the FDC.

For many years Volvo has offered free Premium package in Dec/Jan timeframes. Is this offer available for Dec 2007/Jan 2008 ?

If I wanted to pickup my OSD XC70 in Oct 2008 can I order it today thru Keystone with this delivery data specified AND take advantage of your 30K maintenance offer ?

Do you provide Video communication service for the Keystone purchase experience? I don't care for Email and telephone communication alone and would prefer an eyeball-to-eyeball facility in addition. I'm thinking of something like Apple's video iChat where we could chat and see each other. Seems like this should be easily setup and would improve the remote purchasing experience immensely.

Can a full size spare fit in the '08 XC70 ?

Is there a 3rd party solution to also have an additional button located lower down in cargo area used for lowering the '08 XC70's auto closing rear hatch? Short people cannot reach up high enough to the stock located push button.

There used to be a brown/mocca-like leather option for XC70s. Is this available today ? Special order maybe ?

Thanks for any attention to these details..... Regards.... Barry

Ok - I now have the official Volvo Overseas Delivery Bulletin dated Nov 9, 2007, NO 2007_16.

The OSD Incentive discounts apply from Nov 12 thru Dec 31 2007. Delivery must be no later than Mar 31 2008.

      1)
For the OSD MY08 Custom ordered XC70 the $595 discount applies ONLY to the Premium package which has MSRP of $2995. So the savings here is $2,400.

      2)
For In-Stock OSD MY08 XC70s the Premium package is discounted 100%. So the savings here is $2,995. Dealers can find all the information on the MY08 stock inventory in the stock list on VRC2 (whatever that is).

Thus it costs a customer $595 to custom order rather than pick from the MY08 in-stock list.

In addition to this, there are MY07 models still available (and even a MY06). For these, Volvo is throwing in the Winter Travel Package to Rome or Dublin for FREE. I assume the Premium package for in-stock MY07s is $0.

      Barry;

Sadly, I ordered my new XC70 in October so I'm paying $595 for the Premium Package on an in-stock vehicle. We're picking up the car this Friday, 12/7!

Anyway, how did you get the Volvo Overseas Delivery Bulletin? I haven't been able to locate it on any Volvo web site.

      Thanks......... Dennis

      Re: (Hahon)

I would suggest you speak nicely to your dealership sales person or their manager to see if they can work waiving the $595. Per your date of purchased and the then existing Volvo discount program they don't have to do a thing for you... but you're a Volvo customer and between them and VCNA they may just give you a break. I sure would try for it. I don't think there's any harm in asking nicely.

I was able to obtain the Volvo Overseas Delivery Bulletin from my sales person who had no problem printing it off for me yesterday. If you want a copy I can Email it to you if your Email is available. Let me know.

Our first Volvo and our first OSD experience! We bought a 2007 S80 3.2i pr-built last week - only one of two left, and got all options (Sport, Climate, paint, keyless) free and were able to actually get them to move somewhat on the nav system (which we really don't need), so we feel really good about the price. Additionally, they threw in an extra night at Gothenburg and a 3 day Rome trip at no cost, so it was a no-brainer. I'm thinking about posting our experiences when we return. Where would be appropriate, and is anyone interested in hearing from an old fart in TX?

      Hey Bob,

I noticed tonight that Volvo extended the above mentioned package offers for new OSD orders with deliveries before 4/30/08. I ordered my XC90 (with the $1995 Executive package) a couple of weeks ago when the offer was "off the table". We are picking it up in Gothenburg on 3/25. In your experience, will they honor the discounted package price for my car? Who should I call to discuss this, my Dealer or the OSD Customer Service folks? Thanks in advance for any help.

      -Paul

I am in the same boat pardon the play on words. We were looking int a cruise also from Copenhagen and thought we would get the car drive to Denmark and then have the car after the cruise and go to Gottenburg to fly home. However, I want a V-70 and since it is so new there are no incentive packages on this round through April 31, 1008. Do you OSD guys think the V-70 will be added to the cars with premium incentive packages as I would hate to pay $3000 for something that will eventually be offered. Its also troubling to me that although the OSD deal is a great one that Volvo domestically if offering $1000 cash to prior Volvo owners and there is $1500 marketing support from Volvo to the dealer so conceivably you can get the car close to the OSD price assuming you can strike a deal for $1000 over invoice which I think is realistic.

      Re: (Hundvagn)

      Paul...

When the various incentives are announced...they are not retro active to existing orders. I know that may be a bitter pill to swallow.....but this happens every year as the incentives are extended.
From OSDs standpoint, if they don't offer an incentive, then they are not being competitve...and if they do, then they have to establish a starting an ending date in order have some sense of planning to factor how much incentive $$ is available and how long that $$ will be available.

We all wish it wasn't that way.....heck I am picking up my V50 on 2/4...and I didn't get a free pkg either! But I got the EXACT vehicle my wife wanted and she will be driving it to work by mid march! AND I STILL saved $$ over what I could buy the same vehicle ordering it for US delivery...and I work at Volvo dealership and can buy a car at dead net cost! So I am rewarding myself with a side trip to Dublin for some fun and a few

      Bob,

Actually, I talked to Frank at OSD customer service and he said yes, the folks in Irvine should have given me the $595 incentive price for my Exec. Package. I got confirmation yesterday that they have updated my order with the new price. So... I just saved another $1400, which, with the options and accessories I ordered, makes my price about 10% below MSRP! Gotta love it! Thanks again for sponsoring this excellent forum. It really helps to have easy access to such a knowledge base.

Is it possible to take advantage of BOTH the Rome and Dublin travel offers? And if so, how many days in Goteburg would be included in that deal. Since it says 2 days for each travel offer, might I get 4?

I don't see why not, as long as you pay the price for both trips.

3 Day Rome Trip Offered by Volvo OSD

Does the 3 day Rome trip include transportation from Gothenburg to Rome ?

The OSD website doesn't mention this; perhaps it assumes that the customer
will drive her/his new Volvo from Gothenburg to Rome. If so, does anybody
have an idea how many days such a drive takes ?

      Yes, it does.

From Goteborg to Rome, it's about 2170 km or 1350 miles. About a 23-hr trip if you do it non-stop.

If you want to plan any trips, for Europe, go to http://www.viamichelin.com; it is a very good site!

The 3 day Rome trip (Dublin, also) include both airfare and hotel! That's what makes them such a great deal.

Contact the folks at Volvo Corporate Travel, (800) 730-3555. They will explain everything, including airline upgrades and extending hotel stays beyond the scope of the packages.

They handled my OSD transportation in December and were extremely helpful and efficient. I wish my own corporate travel department were as good.

      Enjoy your trip!

Re: 3 Day Rome Trip Offered by Volvo OSD (Hahon)

Hello to the SwedeSpeed forum! I am new to the forum but have been a LONG time Vwvortex and AudiWorld members for about 10 years.

I am very interested in the OSD and do have a question. Can I LEASE a new '08 XC70 thru the OSD program? Or must I BUY to use the OSD program.

      Thanks to whomever answers!

As I understand it, for Overseas Delivery (OSD) the actual owner must present themselves at the Factory Delivery Center (FDC) to take physical delivery of (signing for) the vehicle. The car will be registered to that owner in Sweden.

Since, in the case of a lease, the leasing company is owner of the vehicle, so leasing is not possible.

That being said, all other financing alternatives are available to you. You will have to pay for the car in full (to your local dealer) 30 days prior to delivery, so it doesn't matter where the payment comes from.

(Physical delivery doesn't necessarily mean driving the car away from the FDC if you don't want/need to. It's fun to drive around the test loop, though, so you can say you actually drove your new car!)

We picked up our New '08 XC70 in Goteborg in December. The entire OSD experience was terrific; everything as advertised and more! Volvo Corporate Travel did a wonderful job of arranging all transportation and accommodations.

Hahon - Thanks for the info! Much Appreciated. Since Leasing is NOT an option that will be a new card in the deck to deal with. ! I will be back !!!

Actually you CAN lease. This link explains some of it. I would suggest IM'ing Yannis, William or Max, as Bob is in Sweden or maybe Dublin by now.

Hopefully, one of them will come along and help you with the details.

OSD is a great program. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
