      18" to 20" Wheels On An XC90?

I am tempted by the recent IPD offer for the Ronal wheels. I currently have 17" OEM wheels with Nokian tires. The Nokians are great in the white stuff, but I am afraid that I will tear them up this summer, and am considering getting 18" to 20" wheels with summer tires. I also would like to have my vehicle go around corners better (I know it is a truck, and it not designed for cornering, but that does not mean the status quo can't be improved)

      Any thoughts or recommendations?

      Considering: 2008 C70 RHT

Here are a few of my concerns with 20" wheels:

      1) Price - In looking at TireRack, the 20" tires look to be much more expensive.
      2) Rough Ride - I am concerned that the suspension of my XC90 is configured for 17" wheels, where the tires provide lots of cushion. Would the 20" rims & tires result in a rough ride?
      3) Damage to rims - Lots of pot holes here in the road construction belt. Do I need to be concerned with damaging rims on pot holes? I have damaged a few on my S60s.

All of the above. I would say, got with 18s or 19s pushing it a bit more.

My XC90 V8 has the 19" Galateia wheels and they are so MUCH better than the 17" Neptunes that were on the XC90 3.2 that preceded it. The ride is much better and so is the steering feel/feedback.

I have 17" Antaeus in the winter(with unstudded Nokian tires) and 19" Galateia (255/50 19) in the summer.

All I can say is for 19" Galateia!

You still have PLENTY of tire with 19s. Even with 20s, if you get 255s you'll have plenty of protection.

We've got 20s on ours (put on by the dealer) And I was surprised at how little it affected ride/harshness after driving it back to back w/ another one they had on the lot w/ 17s. They also don't look so huge on the XC90 (in other words, not thug-ish). When I saw the car on the online ad, I was sure my wife would want to trade them off for something smaller, but she actually likes them.

      We've had quite a bit of experience w/ 20"s.

1 Price is gonna depend on the brand. Michelin is certianly more expensive than Falken.
2 Ride is only a little different from the 18".
3 Damage, not an issue. you have PLENTY of tire w/ the 20's. wouldn't go past 20" though.
